Take in the green comet this week from your hot tub

January 11, 2023

January 11th, 2023 – Sky gazers rejoice! Every once in a while, something truly spectacular takes place in our night skies. This particular event is something really special—and it will be even more so if enjoyed from the hot bubbly water of your hot tub!

The green comet will be visible in the sky starting this Thursday, January 12th. Now, I don’t know how experts figure this stuff out, but they claim it’s the first time it’s made an appearance in 50,000 years! (I mean, who is their source??) At any rate, it’s something you don’t want to miss!

The comet is said to be made of ice. As it makes its closest approach to the sun late Thursday night/early Friday morning, you should be able to see it low on the northeastern horizon. You should plan to bring your binoculars with you in order to see it.

The viewing opportunities should continue until the start of February. It will be the closest to Earth at this point. If you look for Polaris (also known as the North Star), you should be able to spot the green comet near it. At that point, you might be able to see it without the aid of a telescope or binoculars.

I’ve mentioned it before, but there’s really something so special about taking in any sky show from your hot tub. Immersing yourself in hot water, soaking in silence, getting your surroundings as dark as possible, and just waiting. I love soaking in silence, but if you’re a music lover you might want to play something inspirational for the show. It gives time to reflect on our place in the universe, and how little of it we get to experience.

Taking in the green comet is something not to be missed. It will be literally THE chance of our lifetime!
