Put your foot down—in a hot tub. Your feet will thank you!
September 10, 2019 – For many years before I came to Olympic, I had a career in retail that required me to stand on my feet nearly all day. It gave me a new appreciation for what we put our feet through on a daily basis. If you’re someone who’s on your feet countless hours a day, or a runner or triathlete who puts your feet through some serious challenges, a hot tub will help ease the pain—and more!
First and foremost, your feet will appreciate the increased circulation resulting from a soak in hot water. If you’re like me, I find my feet get pretty chilly this time of year as we head into fall. A dip in hot water will get the circulation to your foot all the way to that baby toe and get things warm, toasty and feeling good.
This is also really beneficial if you have a condition like Raynaud’s Syndrome, which impacts circulation to your digits when it’s cold. I remember well what both a hot tub soak and an infrared sauna would do to help provide much needed relief to a friend of mine with Raynaud’s. If you live with it, you’ll welcome the difference it will make for you!
If you are living with diabetes, you know well that you can experience numbness or tingling in your toes from neuropathy. Hot tub soaks will get that circulation and relief to them and help stave off that unpleasant numb/tingly feeling for a time.
Hot water soaking will get the pores of your skin open up to help your body rid itself of toxins. Your feet take a beating, and they also end up trapped in socks, stockings and shoes through much of the day. Add runs or heat to the mix and you’ve got sweat and oil buildup. Dipping your feet into a hot tub will allow your them a chance to dispense of oil, sweat, toxins and deal with dead skin cells, revealing healthy new skin.
Muscle and joint relief is another great benefit your feet will thank you for when you give them a hot water soak. This is especially true if you’re not only on them for multiple hours, but also if you’re an arthritis sufferer. Getting your feet soaking will ease achy joints and loosen the twenty (yes, twenty!) muscles in your foot. The muscles connected to your ankle will be grateful, too.
Achy tired feet are no fun! Think about a hot tub soak in the morning to set them up for anything you put them through during the course of your hectic day. And, make sure to treat them to some hot water relief at the end of the day, too! It will be a sweet reward that will also help you feel more relaxed and set up for a restful night’s sleep.
That’s something we all can stand for, yes?
