Forget glamping! Now hot tubs are an amenity in the new craze: Bubble Hotels
May 11, 2018 – If you like the great outdoors but don’t necessarily love the idea of camping (or even glamping, like me!), you might want to check out the newest craze that’s on the horizon. It takes living in a bubble to an entirely different place!
Enter the bubble hotel. These outdoor retreats are the new rage. Naturally, they’re emerging the world over and the top ten ones recently listed by CNN are everywhere but in the U.S. (We’re late to the game!)
Bubble hotels are geodesic styled transparent structures that allow for an unobstructed view of the horizon and surrounding landscape. Depending on which one you visit, you’ll end up near the heart of Mexican wine country in Valle de Guadalupe, hidden deep in the woods of Northern Ireland, in Iceland where you can take in the Northern Lights, or enjoy the surreal landscape of the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan!
Now, why all of these bubble hotels don’t feature a hot tub and sauna is beyond me. But, fortunately, some folks get it and have hot tubs included in the amenities featured. The one that immediately drew me in is in Spain—one of my personal favorite places in the world. The Aire de Bardenas is in Navarre on the edge of Bardenas Reales Natural Park. One option for staying here is in a luxe prefab pod with an outdoor hot tub. (Sounds terrible, right?)
Another one on the list is in a Provencal forest in the countryside of Marseille: Attrap’Reves. Here you can sleep the night away in king-sized beds in rooms designed by a French designer. While the hot tub isn’t right outside your bubble, there is an outdoor tub in the hotel’s main building.
If you like it remote, head to the Kingston Peninsula all the way in New Brunswick in Canada. At the Ridgeback Lodge Dream Domes, you’ll feel sequestered in domes that are deep within a forest made up of 185 acres. Each bubble features gas fireplaces, log cabin-style decors, and outdoor wood-fired Japanese hot tubs.
If you’re an adventurer who loves the great outdoors, perhaps a trip to one of these exciting new spots is the ticket!
