The reasons I love my infrared sauna
April 30, 2025
I love my hot tub and use it almost every night! It’s a great way to wind down and get myself ready for a (hopefully!) good night’s sleep. But my infrared sauna is the secret weapon I use to get my day started.
Everyone has different reasons or different things they notice when they regularly hot tub or sauna. I thought I’d share some of the reasons why I enjoy my infrared sauna so much.
- It helps wake me up. I’ve said this in the past in previous blogs, but I am NOT a morning person. The older I get, I’m finding that I’m waking up earlier every day, and I’m not a fan. BUT the one thing I’ve discovered is using the sauna in the morning gets my circulation flowing and my heart rate up. It absolutely gets rid of that grogginess and helps me prepare for the day.
- It improves my mood. If I’m feeling off or not in the best frame of mind, I find that a session in the sauna definitely changes that. It’s well documented that a sauna session can help encourage endorphin production, as well as influence cortisol and serotonin levels. It certainly makes an impact on how I feel!
- Reading! Because there is no humidity in the room, early on I started taking a book to read in the sauna each morning. I typically spend 20-30 minutes in the sauna, and it’s just the right amount of time to plow through a decent number of pages in the book I’m currently reading. Sometimes it’s hard to make time to read for me during the day. Starting the day out with a sauna session and a great book is terrific.
- It’s great for my skin. I love the glow my skin has when I wrap up a sauna session. I see a difference when I look in the mirror after my shower. The increased circulation to your epidermis opens the pores and helps your skin eliminate the bad stuff. Dead skin cells are easy to wash away in the shower, and I feel it makes a big difference in how I look. (And I appreciate that more every passing day as I get older!)
- It helps my mobility. I don’t know about any of you, but the older I get the stiffer I am in the morning. And, with age I’ve discovered I’m now dealing with some arthritis. Infrared therapy penetrating my muscles and joints helps with my overall mobility. I feel so much more limber when I finish a session.
- Immunity boost! I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a cold or the flu. It’s well documented that regular sauna use can help boost your body’s natural immune defenses, and I’m here to be a witness to that fact!
- It warms me up. Well, that may seem like a “duh”. But the older I’ve gotten, I’ve noticed I seem to get colder more easily, and it takes a while for me to get warm. Hopping in the sauna, feeling that welcoming heat, getting my blood flowing and everything firing on all cylinders…that infrared heat is know for getting you warm from the inside out, and I absolutely feel it. Nothing like it on a chilly Northwest morning!
- It improves my breathing. Are you ever a little congested in the morning? I am. I have eucalyptus essential oil that I use in my infrared sauna. First, it smells terrific. Secondly, I’m sure the scent helps with that waking up I talked about as the first thing on my list here. But it’s wonderful to take some deep cleansing breaths in the sauna, enjoy the therapeutic benefit of the eucalyptus, and feel my airway open and clear. I breathe so much better when I finish up with my sauna session.
Every time I use my sauna, I feel so much better and start my day out on a much more positive note. If you’re looking for an easy way to increase your overall health and wellbeing, a sauna could be just the thing! Olympic has a fantastic array of Tylo Saunas. If you’re in greater Puget Sound, we’re ready to heat up your wellness routine with a sauna. You will love it!
