Use your hot tub and sauna to combat the Age of Pharmaceuticals

October 24, 2018 – A few weeks ago, I picked up an art installation that Alice, our previous co-owner had on display in her office. It’s now installed in my office in Seattle behind our showroom on Westlake Avenue. Alice purchased the piece, called “The Age of Pharmaceuticals” several years ago.

It’s a fascinating piece that’s a statement on our society and the inclination to reach for a pill to take care of many of the aches, pains and life trials we humans endure. Each of the 48 boxes that make up the art piece indirectly reflects a number of over the counter medications Americans buy. But each box is instead emblazoned with messaging for the true things regarding our health and life we should be focusing on: from wellness, comfort and joy to gratification, contentment and happiness. Throughout the piece, there’s the occasional hidden image of U.S. currency. This seems to reference the insane amount of money spent every year on the “quick fix” to help make us feel better. (Guess how much that really is?? One online site reports that the total spent in 2017 was $34.3 billion!!)

It makes me relish the business of selling hot tubs and saunas. I’ve always told my team over the years the wonderful thing about our business: we sell products that make people feel better and be better! Both hot tubs and saunas do nothing but terrific things for the human body, soul and mind. That’s certainly something we all can use more of, wouldn’t you agree?

The next time something physical, emotional, or relational pains you, think about a hot tub soak or a sauna session instead of the “quick fix” in the form of a pill. You’ll likely feel better and achieve it in a much more natural and organic way. Your body will thank you!
