Boeing & Olympic Hot Tub Announce Joint Venture to Create “Spa Class” Upgrades Available for 787 Dreamliner
Everett Washington – 4-1-2015 – This morning Boeing Chairman, W. James (Jim) McNerny Jr. and Alice Cunningham, owner of Olympic Hot Tub announced a joint venture to create the 787 Dreamliner “Spa Class” airliner. The new “Spa Class” refers to the integration of a hot tub and sauna suite in Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner. Both companies have been working in collaboration over the last 18 months to test and finalize the technologies involved.
Airline manufacturers have been scrambling to dominate the Asian flight markets by offering more comfort to customers on long trans-Pacific flights. This move my Boeing will reassert the company’s dominance in this market segment. Shares of Boeing rallied in early morning trading on the news.
McNerny went on to say, “Boeing is the world leader in aviation innovation. Our partnership with Olympic Hot Tub Company speaks greatly to our desire to be the most forward-looking aviation company and our commitment to seeking to support local partners here in Washington State”.
Alice Cunningham added, “Much like Boeing, Olympic Hot Tub has always looked for ways to innovate and open new markets. We are very excited for the opportunities our partnership with Boeing brings for both companies and more importantly to all of our employees.” Both companies plan to expand hiring. Olympic Hot Tub will also provide service training and hot tub maintenance certification to airline ground crews.
Olympic Hot Tub will provide Hot Spring Spas Jetsetter NXT model as well as Finnleos S820 Duo Infrared Saunas. Both the hot tubs and saunas will fit a maximum of two passengers in both units. Some airlines have talked about selling the use of the sauna and hot tub as an add-on while others are going to offer the use of the facilities free for First Class and Business Class passengers.
Flight Simulator Technology Used to Keep Water in Hot Tub
When asked about water spilling as the airplanes maneuver, the genius behind the technology came to light. All hot tubs will be mounted on 4 scaled down versions on flight simulator platforms positioned under each corner (simulator legs). The flight simulator legs will use the same exact flight information the plane uses, but are programmed to give the opposite response, creating a perfectly level hot tub regardless of which way the plane maneuvers. “By reverse-engineering the current flight simulator software, we are able to have the hot tub platforms maintain a perfectly balanced hot tub. After more that 1,000 flight hours, we have yet to spill a drop of water.”, explained Vice President of Technology and Certification, Ima Poolin-Yoleg.
When asked about using the hot tubs in turbulent weather, Poolin-Yoleg said, “The hot tubs would be closed and the water will return to specialized reservoirs where the water will be sanitized using the Ace Salt Water Sanitizing system developed by Hot Spring Spas. In addtion, Covana Automated Covers will provide privacy for each hot tub user.”
Emirates Airlines Orders “Spa Class” Upgrades for 150 planes
In addition to the already exciting news, McNerny revealed that Emirates Airlines requested that all of the existing plane orders (150 airplanes worth $76 Billion) integrate the new “Spa Class” upgrades. Boeing nor Olympic Hot Tub would talk specifically about the cost of the upgrades, but clearly airlines already see it is a value worth adopting. An Emirates Airline spokesperson said of the upgrade, “This is the exact technology we have been looking for to take our guests experience to the next level. We congratulate Boeing and Olympic Hot Tub for their commitment to us and our customers. We look forward to partnering with both companies on future endeavors”.
