HOW A SAUNA WORKS TO REDUCE THE APPEARANCE OF WRINKLES
Saunas help relax your muscles, but they can also help your skin get rid of toxins that may contribute to wrinkles. Using a sauna regularly will give you a natural glow just from cleaning out your facial pores. As the steam from the sauna penetrates your skin, it may help plump up wrinkles, which can diminish their appearance.
Saunas are a natural way to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, and regular use can help keep you looking younger. Take a cold shower or bath following your sauna treatment to help revitalize your skin, Earl Fee suggests in his book, “One Hundred Years Young the Natural Way: Body, Mind, and Spirit Training.”
ANOTHER WRINKLE REDUCING TIP: Try a coffee facial after the sauna.
The caffeine in coffee firms and plumps the skin to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles when applied externally, according to Diane Irons in her book “Insider Beauty: Secrets of the Fit and Fabulous.” Dip a clean cloth into a cup of cooled coffee, and apply directly to your face. Allow the coffee to dry on your skin, and rinse with warm water. Repeat once daily as needed to help get rid of lines and wrinkles. Do not use coffee with added sugar or cream. Use plain black coffee for the best results.
Spend only 10 to 12 minutes in a traditional steam sauna. Prolonged exposure may actually dry out your skin. Dry skin is more likely to show wrinkles and fine lines. Drink plenty of water after your sauna session to help replace the fluids you lost through sweating. Plenty of water may also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles by keeping your body hydrated.
AFTER THE SAUNA.
Smooth a moisturizing cream over your skin immediately following your sauna session. The lotion will help seal in moisture and help reduce the appearance of fine lines. Baby oil may have a similar effect by moisturizing your skin.
