November 6, 2018 – I just returned from the International Pool Spa & Patio Expo last week held in Las Vegas. It’s always an interesting event, where we get a chance to get a glimpse into what’s on the horizon for the coming year.

While there, we also get a chance to visit and re-connect with many of the companies we’ve chosen to do business with that we feel are the best in their fields. It’s terrific to see so many of them there and be reminded of the great partners we have in our industry.

I visited with the team at SilkBalance at the show. This year marked the 10^th anniversary of SilkBalance in the U.S. It’s hard to believe it’s already been TEN years since we placed our very first order with them at that show. It was a funny thing—one of my life long friends who was working for Olympic as our Operations Manager pulled me over to their booth to convince me to carry SilkBalance. I listened to the story about their product, and I was thoroughly convinced it could not deliver on their promises! How could one product soften your skin while you soak, help protect your hot tub’s components, combat biofilm AND keep your water chemistry balanced?? All while giving the hot tub water a fresh odor-free scent? I wasn’t a believer.

Nevertheless, that day we became their very first authorized dealer in the U.S., placing an order for a pallet of SilkBalance. And guess who had to confess it really could do all that? Me! And was I glad to be wrong. Today, we’re one of the top dealers of SilkBalance, and we have customers that absolutely love this product. For some, who had serious skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, it gave them the thrilling luxury of again soaking in their hot tub regularly. For others, water care became simplified to the point that they fell in love anew with their tubs.

When I got back to Seattle, it was C-O-L-D. And, with cold weather comes plenty of opportunity for Mother Nature to rob us of the very moisture our skin needs to remain supple and healthy. It was great fun for me to be involved. Ten years after placing our first order of SilkBalance, Olympic became the first to order a pallet of the all-new SIlkGems. One gem a week added to your tub does all the liquid SilkBalance does in the convenience of a no-fuss pod.
