Attention MMA fighters, boxers & wrestlers: An infrared sauna can guard against skin infections
May 29, 2018 – I recently saw an article on MMA fighters and the plight of athletes experiencing all types of skin infections related to the sport. Yikes! The list was not pretty. From ringworm and herpes all the way to staph infections, one thing is quite clear: if you don’t pay attention to your skin, you can be dealing with some very serious health issues related to exposure to bacteria.
While this particular report focused on MMA fighters, wrestlers and boxers could also suffer the same fate. And, it would stand to reason that regular gym attendees may also be exposed to more than enough to create a risky arena for your skin.
There are, of course, some common-sense things that anyone involved in fitness should think about when in a fitness facility: refrain from sharing towels with others, wear clean clothing that features moisture wicking for every workout, wipe down gym mats and equipment before use.
Here’s the good news: If you make infrared sauna use part of your fitness regimen, you’ll do your skin a world of good. Here’s the short list of why infrared sauna sessions make excellent sense:
- Because infrared saunas raise your body’s core temperature, you’ll be detoxing your system and flushing harmful bacteria away. The heat can also kill some of that bacteria, rendering it harmless.
- In the case of MMA fighters, the sauna use will open your pores to rid them of oils along with toxins that could guard against friction acne. Pores will be prevented from a sebum buildup that can bring on pimples, blackheads or whiteheads.
- Infrared saunas have well-documented benefits for your skin’s health. The resulting increase in collagen and elastin help fortify your epidermis. These basic skin building blocks will do wonders to strengthen your skin and be better equipped for the beating a workout will force upon it. It’s your body’s largest organ—best to take care of it while you’re taking care of the rest of you to stay fit!
Most folks don’t realize that an infrared sauna is easy to own at home. Whether you live in a condo, apartment or home, there’s room for an infrared unit. Finnleo Saunas makes an entire array of portable infrared units—one is as small as just three feet square if space is at a premium. And—we have SIX models that plug into a standard household outlet—no wiring required!
If you’re a fitness warrior, consider adding an infrared sauna to your life. Your body will be glad you did—and be much safer to boot!
