Do you know which water care products to put in your hot tub? We do!

July 7, 2017

July 7, 2017 – If you’re already the owner of a Hot Spring Spa from Olympic Hot Tub, we know you gave it a good deal of consideration. Chances are we were recommended by a friend, followed by you doing your due diligence to confirm this was the best of all possible choices. That’s why we scratch our heads when our service techs and valet team members visit customers, only to find a mish-mash of water care products are being used in the hot tub.

How could this be?  A variety of reasons come to mind…a last minute decision was made when a product ran out,  it was convenient, you can’t beat the price of Brand X.

After wandering through a maze of hot tub literature, and realizing that they were not all “just about the same”, you made the logical choice, a Hot Spring Spa from Olympic Hot Tub. Well, you needn’t take that same journey when choosing your water care products. The water care products provided by the company that sold you “your best hot tub”, are in fact the best products for that hot tub.

Know this…not all hot tub products are the same! It is in no one’s best interest, yours nor ours, to offer you anything but the very best and proper products for your hot tub. We’ve done the research, and continue to do so…with your water quality and good health as our motivation.

When you’re shopping for water care products here are some things to be mindful of:

  1. Choosing the wrong product at the wrong store. Box stores make seasonal purchases of products intended to cover a broad range of customer needs. Case in point: the same chlorine is offered for “pools and hot tubs”…even though they each require a different product. The chlorine for Hot Tubs needs to be 99% sodium dichlor-which is proper to kill all the bacteria in water that is 100-degrees or more. You absolutely SHOULD NOT use pool chlorine for your hot tub. It’s the wrong mix. Sodium hypochlorite, which is typically the active ingredient in pool chlorine…is not right for a hot tub! It’s worth your time and the health of your hot tub, to find the proper products.  They won’t be found in the garden or seasonal section of a box store…plus, you’re less likely to find anyone who can give you expert advice.
  2. Mixing Brands: you’re not baking a cake. No matter which cow or hen the butter and eggs came from…chances are your cake’s going to be delish! Not so with hot tub chemicals. Different brands offer different percentages and combinations of MPS (shock), chlorine, and pH stability. When you mix brands you leave yourself open for water quality problems, and you could make it more difficult to keep your water balanced. At Olympic Hot Tub we are always aware of the most up to date and best performing products for our hot tubs and yours.  If you choose the right products, peace of mind will be one of your rewards.
  3. “New” isn’t always “Right”. We’re not just in the hot tub business. We’re also in the hot tub advice business. Once in a while customers call us with questions about products that really don’t belong in their hot tub. Sometimes a competitor will push a product because they got a hot deal on chemicals through a promotion or contest. Just remember, it’s all about the water. If you want to keep your hot tub in top shape for years to come, think twice about adding that new or odd chemical to your tub.

If you’ve “drifted”… you have your reasons. If convenience was your motivation for purchasing the odd hot tub chemical, we invite you to visit our E-Store. At the E-Store you’ll find an assortment of quality products for your hot tub that are just a click away!
